Press Release - Montezuma County
Eagles Nest Partnership, LLP
Proudly presents
WedMont Golf Links (A wholly owned subsidiary of Eagles Nest
Partnership, LLP)
Cortez, Colorado
Cortez, Colorado, - February 2001--Eagles Nest Partnership, LLP is
proud to announce construction activities related to WedMont Golf Links,
a par three links golf course.
· WedMont Golf Links is a private environmental links golf course,
privately owned by Eagles Nest Partnership, LLP. It is being constructed
for the sole benefit of Eagles Nest Partnership, LLP and its invited
guests. It is not part of Eagles Nest Development.
· A links golf course is distinct from a "championship golf
course track" in that there are no "sprawling fairways"
from tee to green. Instead, there are tee boxes, landing areas and
greens.
· WedMont Golf Links is a planned environmental golf course.
o Plans do not include toxic based chemicals for fertilizer,
maintenance, etc. o "Micro-organic" treatments of the soils
will provide the only amendments to the turfs utilized.
· WedMont Golf Links will "wind around and through" lakes,
natural topography and the Eagles Nest Development. It is not part of
Eagles Nest Development.
· Invited guests will include landowners within Eagles Nest
Development, for an annual fee to be determined by Eagles Nest
Partnership, LLP.
· There is no current plan for WedMont Golf Links to be open to the
general public for play. Should such ever occur, our intention is to
"grandfather in" existing guests.
· The golf course will consist of eighteen challenging holes,
developed within the existing topography of the property and two lakes.
· WedMont Golf Links will be situated on approximately 58 acres,
dedicated by partnership resolution to only a golf course or green belt.
· Planned turfs include bent grass for greens, a blend of fescue for
landing areas and tee boxes, and a variety of other grasses on
"vertical" areas surrounding bunkers. Turfs selected will be
"drought resistant and tolerant", as well as "slow
growing" to reduce maintenance requirements. Gardner Turf Farms of
McKinley, New Mexico, is anticipated to be the provided of sod
requirements.
· Irrigation will be accomplished either through the Water
Conservancy extension of the irrigation system in the county, or in the
alternative, with wells providing water for the lakes, from which an
irrigation system will be developed in four planned quadrants to
maintain the course.
· Soft and hard landscaping associated with the golf course will
reflect native plants and trees, blending into, enhancing the
surrounding environment.
· Greens are being constructed from USGA recommended options to
maximize moisture retention, rather than with options which would
encourage drainage from the greens via gravel and subterranean drains.
Given the "dry nature" of Goodman point historically, this is
quite necessary.
· Tee boxes will have the same considerations as greens, to maximize
moisture retention.
· The front nine rough-in was completed in the Fall of 2000. The
rough-in of the back nine is expected in the Spring of 2001, weather
permitting.
· Sodding of the entire golf course is planned for late Spring 2001,
barring weather problems and availability of sod.
· The growth period for the main golf course is anticipated to take
approximately two years, given the weather conditions in this area, and
the normal level of precipitation. Landscaping enhancements, soft and
hard, will be continuous as part of the overall development of the
course.
· Anticipated play on the golf course is the summer of 2003.
Availability of required turfs and weather will control the planned
milestone dates.
· The lake construction was completed in the fall of 2000. They have
been established to reclaim surface water run-off. Water surfaces exceed
100,000 square feet. They will be an integral part of the golf course,
insuring challenging play and aesthetic surroundings.
· The lakes and landscape are planned to enhance the wildlife
habitat we currently experience.
· Plans for the lakes include stocking of fish for a "catch and
release" program for invited guests, i.e. landowners within Eagles
Nest Development.
